Coincidence?

Ever encountered this situation where you happen to meet an accquaintance in a public place..

And the person would be someone you had never really talked to back then..suddenly now that you meet..you'd have to engage in conversations like you're good friends..cos if you don't talk..it'll be too weird as you're standing at the same cabin or seated at the next table or be at a place where theres no people except the 2 of you..hehe..ok you get the drift?

This only applies to meeting accquaintances..

Yeap, concidentally it happened to me..3 times in a week. Freakishly concidental man.

1st encounter: Ferdinand from sec sch. Whom I never really spoke to in class..its been 8 years since graduation.

2nd encounter: Sibei from NP, I have no idea how I knew her back then..think she's pq's friend or yl's friend?

3rd encounter: Esther from NP. At popeye chicken in Changi Airport. (Popeye chicken is very yummy also!!)

And during all 3 times..the conversation flow would be the same..and sometimes I think there's not much point in talking so much too, as its a one-off meeting.

Here's how the sequence would go:

1) The place that you met
This is like the ice breaker topic, as you suddenly met after like donkey years..its definitely weird having to talk suddenly.

You'd talk about the place that both of you meet. eg: Was at the coffee shop opposite riverwalk where its famous for the lor mee, and the topic would be about why both of you are there..digressing a bit, if you go there, try the Pig's organ soup instead if you're not a lor mee fan like me..the pig's organ is like.................SHIOK!! Juicy and tender!

2) Your current status
This topic gets the ball rolling.. its easier to talk about yourself.
This would include talking about the job you're doing now, or maybe if you're single/married etc...the general info of what your current status.

3) The common friends
This is a topic that's definitely talked about..if you worked in the same company..or went to the same school, the friend would ask you about those people whom you still keep in touch with, or not.

4) More info about your job
This is a popular topic for small talk to find out about what you do in the current company.

5) Exchange contacts
This is like the finale of the conversation, where you'd exchange business cards/msn information. This is like an end to the whole meeting where you'd exchange contacts..and that's it.

You'd would probably say something like.. "lets meet up sometime!", "great catching up with you, maybe we could do it someday!"

I think the "lets meet up sometime" phase..probably people say it just for the sake of saying. That's what I think. If the meeting up was meant to happen..it would have happened before this meeting ain't it?

I'm never a fan of small talk, thus going through those rounds of talking was quite boring for me..

Another thing about meeting such accquaintances is that, everytime you finish talking a topic..and before you move on the the next one..there'd be a slience pause, that's the part that called awkward silence.

Oh well..that's the difference between talking to your pals and accquaintances.

True friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable.

I'm glad I have friends whom I can have silent moments with.
