Happy 40th Birthday Singapore

Ya-ay~~!

Its a great day today cos its singapore's birthday!

Was in a chirpy mood today as it marks an important day that symbolizes how Singapore has prosper as a country ..to celebrate, I even wore a red tee the whole day.

Had wanted so much to attend the celebration at Padang this year..but I actually forgot to ballot for the tickets!! I must remember to do that next year.

Met up with Pingzi and Pq at WM today for some relaxed bantering..it was nice just hanging out.. probably that's the best thing that one could do with buddies, that is you need not have an agenda to meet up and when you all do meet, its endless talks and just chilling and go home happy at the end of the day.

Reached home promptly at 5.30pm to catch the parade starting.

Its really exciting watching the show as i missed the parade on TV last year.

I remembered last year in school..the Singapore Student's Association organized a mini food fare that sold Singapore's food in campus.

It was bloody expensive though..A$8.50 for a packet of chicken rice that was kinda sucky. So probably it costs around 10 bucks in S'pore dollar.

They gave out little goodie bags comprising of Mamee packs and sweets ..and the little round red slices thing that you'd have to peel the sides in order to eat it. And of course, Our Singapore Flag. I was proud to hang the flag around my bagpack the whole day in school.

Songs like Stand up for Singapore, 家, and other national day songs in Malay, and Tamil could also be heard on that day.

They even gave us a cd compilation of all the National Day songs, and JJ's rendition of 家 is also in it!! Loved the version he sang, hehe..cos its JJ Lin Junjie!!!

I tried watching the National Day Parade via the Internet on my lappy. However it kept buffering and was very laggy..and the main parts of the show..it hanged and I had to reconnect again!!

I remembered JJ was singing on stage with Kit Chan when it hanged..darn.. that was bad, I wanted to watch that part of the performance and yet it didn't let me. I stopped trying when it gets tiring just to press the replay button every 20 seconds.

And there was Vincent Ng on the Hot air balloon thingy doing some acrobats!! Saw some of it and that was the end.

Being away from your own country on National Day does feel lonely. No one to shout "Happy Birthday Singapore!" to. I didn't excatly shout that this year too..but I SMSed Hus bout it!! hehehe.

I was cooped up in my room and studied throughout the nite listening to the compilation CD of National Day songs. Great that I still kept it!

I realised I really did study so hard that I didn't realise Last year Olympics was held in Sydney.
I didn't read the papers there, and neither did I watch much TV or news to be aware of such a BIG...i mean huge event happening in the same country I was in!

No one around me mentioned bout it too!! Hmm..or was I the only Nut that didn't know. Blezh.. have to wait 4 yrs for it to be held again.

I probably only watched 2 hours of TV every WEEK. Compared to the 2 hrs of TV everyday now, its such a contrast. haha..my TV-endurance level was pretty high then, considering someone like me who loves watching TV more than anything(except sleeping).

So..This year's parade was pretty great! ! Kept myself glued to the TV from 5.30-9pm(shooting stars too)

But felt that there seems to be lesser singing performances by local singers..that's something I was actually looking forward to..maybe people like Cai Chun Jia, JJ, Rui en or Tanya could perform some songs.

Maybe that was replaced by the showcasing of the Army Vehicals, that wasn't as much over the past years.

Oh, and its pretty cool seeing my poly classmate on TV marching, especially looking at him speaking to Mr President when President Nathan stopped at the Navy Contingent. hahahaa, it was like, "Woah, Way to go Deva!" It must be a proud moment for him.

The next class gathering, I reckon we'd all include the question, "So what did Mr President ask you about?" hehe.

hehehe. . Rui En sang great too, and she really looks alot slimmer as compare to her MTV version.

The fireworks were fantastic too!! I had a great view of it at Furama hotel last weekend during their Preview(all thanks to Hus for the great gift!), hmm...but viewing it 'Live' at Padang would be more exciting.
* mutters to self *"Please let me get the tickets for next year's parade"

I've only watched the National Day Parade 'Live' once 4 years ago. And no, it wasn't an invitation ticket from some guy friend in the army. It was through hard work of queuing that I got the tickets, queuing 23 hours was no joke.

Since then, I've decided I wasn't cut out for queuing as I don have much of a patience to stay awake throughout the night playing dai-dee with some army guys on duty there. Without Sleep somemore and out in the cold on the road!!

Well well...Singapore has come a long way of 40 years, Happy National Day once again!

The queuing days for National Day tickets are gone, but its great memories to have once stepped into the National Stadium to witness the magnificent performance.

Being away from the country last year made me realise how wonderful Singapore is, where else would we find queues everywhere, or Singlish being heard, or nice Palm Trees along the road leading towards Changi Airport, the great eating places, accessible transport, bustling night activities till wee hours, nice tall buildings and HDBs, Our Esplanade, lamps along the roads(yes even street lamps!) and lots more things that truly signify singapore.

Yea.. probably it might be kinda cliche, but those were the thoughts I had as my plane embarked on the Changi Airport from Aussie Land last year, I looked out the window and saw Singapore at a bird's eye view, I saw the bright lights(its scary without lamps on the road), our Esplanade, our roads, our buildings, our harbour, our cars, our green trees alot alot! etc and boy, was I glad to be back to the familiar land.

Yea, I shouldn't complain bout the weather and service in Singapore already should I. hehe.

Teehee~~ I feel so patriotic today! Let us sing aloud, "要勇敢向前飞, 团结就是把握。。“

And..its bed time once again.
